Students are suffer from stress, anxiety, depression, and suicide attempts because of their studies and expectations, especially during exam periods. Accordingly, Chulalongkorn University has established Chula student wellness Center. Nevertheless, with the overwhelming demand, a student can wait upto one month or more before they can see the specialists. In a worst case scenario, students in critical stages may not have access to the service in time. From my research and analysis, not all students who face mental problems need to see the expert right away. Some may not need an expert consultation at all if they have access to basic guidance and self-help tools that enable them to cope with their mental issues.
Hands On is a set of self-help tools that aims to enhance its user’s psychological capitals. According to the CU Wellness Center, the six psychological capitals which are Grit, Mindfulness, Gratitude, Self-compassion, Meanings in Life, and Resilience can strengthen your mentaI wellbeing. Hands On developed under the guidance of the psychologist from Chulalongkorn University’s Wellness Center. It is designed based on the principle that one can build a new habit of mental strength in 21 days. Each tool is purposely designed differently to encourage a user to develop or strengthen each psychology capital. At the same time, let the user experience the self-help journey independently with their own hands in their safe space. The tools’ objective is to fundamentally help students to cope with stress, anxiety, and mental problems on a basic level which is not meant to be a replacement for expert consultation. Although, Hands On Is developed from the case studies in CU Wellness but it should be applicable to other or universities students or young people in general.
